What did you do to your Lotus today

As the “on the road” day approaches thought that it was a good time to check the tyres.
Whilst they look in good condition, try as I might, I couldn’t find a date code on them but did find a slight clue that helped.

“Made in Yugoslavia” puts them pre-'93, think it’s well time to find what’s available in 145/13 rubber. Pity really because there was good tread left. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Any recommendations for type available (UK)?

almost exactly nothing like mine
Looks excellent

Cured O/S/R indicator fault due to a duff bullet connector & Adjusted the handbrake…
More work required as the handbrake tree is rather wobbly.

Graeme, the shell looks sensational in that colour

Have fitted 155 / 13 General Altimax on my S3 back in May last year just before I ended up pulling the engine out… :unamused:
Fairly sure they are also available in 145.
only done just over 200 miles running in / steady driving with them so far but they seem ok not noisy and appear to be fairly grippy … Still not checked in the wet / damp though or at any real Elan speed.
I swapped same size as it came with. They fit but are close to spring perch. They feel way closer by hand than they actually look from underneath but perch does show sign of PO “adjustment”

They certainly seem & feel better than the ancient Goodyear Vectors that came off it.
They looked ok, had loads of tread had passed an MOT & held pressure but unseen they were delaminating internally which was an eye opener.
For safety sake I would definitely swap them if you have concern over their age.
I will see how these go and poss update to something else later if I decide to do some hillclimb as not in the MSA list.

Painted a handful of brackets, and put it under the cover.
Then spent a few hours with some pals refitting the engine and gearbox to a Lotus Sunbeam that one of them is restoring,

Drove it; washed it; clay barred it; polished it; waxed it.

Regards
Richard

Looks sensational

Sent two five speed boxes to Norfolk …

Who is Norfolk? Must be rich or deluded!!

Replaced the Powerspark module with points today. The module failed on the way to the Oulton Park Gold Cup, left me stranded for four hours at the roadside till the RAC arrived with a low loader truck. So annoyed the module lasted 1500 miles, I’ll stick with the points now.

Maybe both, I’ll ask my better half… :frowning:

Washed it thoroughly, clay barred it, waxed it then put it to bed for the winter in its carcoon inside a shipping container.
Chris

Wait…winter? What calendar are you using?

Indeed, around these parts September/ October are the best months of the year for Lotus enjoyment.

“put it to bed for the winter in its carcoon inside a shipping container.”

How very very sad. What a way to use a sports car. Autumn and winter have some of the best driving days of the lot. So sad.

I thought my post might stir up some dust, I wasn’t wrong. I knew some would bite. I can only drive one car at a time and these wonderful autumn driving days I will enjoy in my open top Z3.
Chris

A Z3 - even sadder!!

This is the first fall that my Elan will be in running order and I’m looking forward to taking it out without sweating through my enjoyment.

Only just got mine back on the road so out enjoying it even at reduced running in rpm. Pity I missed the quiet lockdown roads.
so far: Carb fiddling, had to twist 3/4 shaft slightly to synch, may need to recheck float levels & hoping the webcon pump really didn’t need a reg as well… handbrake adjustment & temp mod to add another return spring ( new tree required over winter…) and a slight can cover oil leak :unamused: new gasket in stock for when I drop the oil and check the clearances.

More chance of it getting a coating of actual clay rather than me using a claybar

Don’t see me parking mine up just yet as enjoying it but each to their own although it hasn’t even seen the wet yet the devil in me is waiting for a touch of snow
