Window Frame Felt Window Channel Lining -too thin

I have replaced the window channel lining to the refurbished window frames and i cant seem to get the glass to sit snugly in he felt channel and just rattles backwards and forwards - is a different thickness felt channel available to hold the glass snuggly as it travels up and down. The sits square in the frame

The car is a Elan 1967 S3 SE DROPHEAD

I went through the same experience as you (20+ years ago) when I was refurbishing my S4 (same window frame brass extrusion on S3). I cannot remember which ‘Silent Channel’ I purchased initially but it was not fit for purpose and I ditched it. I then got samples from several suppliers and none of them were satisfactory. My problem was solved when a colleague gave me a length of extrusion left over from his Elan rebuild, unfortunately he could not recall where he sourced it!

I have attached a document I created at the time that showed the product variations offered by different (UK?) suppliers. Whilst is well outdated it might give you an idea of what to look for.

Hi Nick.

My car was a 1967 S3 DHC (recently sold), I stripped the door down to find a rattle. All seals, pullies, cable, clips, etcetra, were purchased from Sue Miller and everything fitted correctly.

The only things I did not need to buy were the cable clamp screws (studs) which I make for her. (sorry guys, but I have to get a plug in when I can). If in doubt always try Sue first.

Nico,

I also bought from Sue her supplier is C H Baines. I use Sue as my first choice, if I need to buy something I would rather she had my money than anyone else.
