Current 2024 Lotus Emira owner (NC - USA) trying to locate 1967 Lotus Elan S3, BRG, Chassis # 457252. My dad and I were the second owners. Car was sold in early 70s, probably 1974/75 (Hendersonville, NC). I was in college when my dad sold it to two gentleman from SC who indicated an interest in racing the roadster. I do not know if the car remained street or not. I checked the Lotus Elan Registry, and it is not listed. If anyone knows what happened to the car, I would appreciate any information.

I am afraid that I have no history attached to this Elan in my private register, though I can tell you the Engine No and date of invoice by the factory in 1967
It is difficult to say, given the clarity of your photo, but it would seem that your father’s Elan was fitted with one or two of the Super Safety features. These include the side reflectors, bolt-on wheels and the interior door lever dropped below the door card. For further info on the SS, see the attached article I wrote a few years ago.
It may be worth contacting some of the US Lotus clubs to see if they have any records for the car under that Unit No.

Thanks for the information. I do remember the original owner had moved to NC from FL, so I always thought the car came from a dealership in FL. The door panel pictured in the article looks very familiar. I will explore locating US Lotus Clubs in the southeast.
