Technically this was last month, but @StressCraxx and I drove down the Big Sur coast to watch the pebble beach tour last month. He did a great job in his Lotus 23 at Laguna Seca for the historic races. Now I just need him to finish the restoration of his S3 Elan!
Wow, nice photos! That was a beautiful day.
Not an Elan, but a great time was had by all. Very grateful for everyone’s help. A little grief with donuts but resolved with the help of fellow competitors and fellow Lotusers.
looks fantastic ![]()
@GeoffW Wowww! Very nice pics! ![]()
I took a very roundabout route over to the little church where my mother and father are laid to rest.
This past weekend we attended the ‘Brits in the Ozarks’ show in Fayetteville, AR. There were about 150 cars there, everything from a 1934 MG race car to an almost new McLlaren.
There were 12 Lotus registered, and 8 that actually braved the rain (it was a VERY wet weekend) and showed up. A 1963 Elite, my ‘72 Elan, 3 Elises, 2 Evoras, and a Zetec powered Elan +2. I got pictures of 5 of the cars, by the time everybody showed up it was pouring buckets.
There’s the quick, straight, route from Tulsa to Fayetteville, and the longer, funner route. We took the longer & funner one, the best part of which is US 62 from Tahlequah to Westville, OK. Lots of curves and altitude changes. The perfect Elan road. It was a joy.
Ah, found a picture with all 8 cars in it:
A very short notice gathering here in Belmont, Vermont. Amazing on two counts–European cars were the distinct majority, and there were two from Lotus–my Sprint and a very nice Europa. The Europa owner has also just completed a full and exhaustive restoration of a 1960 Elite.
Pictures are broken for me. All I see are (ugly) file names.
I’m sorry. I guess attaching photos is beyond my limited computer skill. Of course, that’s true for most things.

The weather has cooled here, with afternoon highs remaining in the 60s F versus the high 70s and 80s they’d been earlier. I took the S3 out today just to clear its pipes – and mine – and I would swear it likes the lower temperatures quite a lot! It felt lively and willing to romp. The drive ended up being about 2 hours longer than I had anticipated. It was that good. On the way home I passed a spot where I like to photograph cars, and the sun was being very agreeable, so I pulled in and snapped a few. Pardon the road cruft…
Drove to a local cars and coffee - got to hang out with gregz and Frank ( no that’s not me in the red t-shirt)
I went to Revival Cafe, a Japanese cafe that focuses on motorsports. They were showing Nigel Mansell and other celebrities on the screen.
Yesterday October 15th a group of seven including five LE.net members had a very enjoyable lunch meet-up at The Three Chimneys pub nestling in the very picturesque village of Biddenden, Kent.
No fewer than 5 elans plus an Esprit turned up plus a non descript van driven by a shamefaced TVR and Porsche owner. The TVR had a flat battery and was blocking the Porsche in….
Those attending @trw99 @elan66, @JimE @Pastapesto Sinan the Esprit owner and shamefaced Mark who brought a van plus myself.
Well done…. looks like a cool gathering,
Back to the future! Did you happen to notice any strange looking DeLoreans?
Yesterday drove from Tulsa to Decatur, TX, about 290 miles, on the way to Marble Falls, TX, for the “All British Car Days” (ABCD) show on Saturday. Beautiful weather. Lots of wide open spaces through flat ag land once you’re about 100 miles south of Tulsa. Not the best Elan roads, but this is why I put the 5 speed in.
Google saved us some time - the route through Oklahoma was the same main route from Tulsa to Dallas, so traffic was heavy. When we got to Atoka, OK, there was a massive backup - there must have been a bad accident there.
One of the idiosyncrasies of Oklahoma roads is that there is no continuous limited access highway between Tulsa and Dallas unless you go 100 miles west to Oklahoma City. So the direct route goes through multiple little Oklahoma towns with 45 mph speed limits. Atoka is one of those.
But because Google knew we were heading to Decatur, which is well west of Dallas, it routed us westward early, avoiding 90% of the Atoka backup. Thank you, Google Maps.
Drove about 8 miles to attend the All British Car Days show in Marble Falls, Texas. Met up with Gary Boudreaux and son Michael there - Michael brought his E-type coupe. We had met them at LOG40 in Salt Lake City in 2021, and Gary had coached me on repairing the crack between my left side headlight pod and the engine bay. He was happy to see that the repair has held up.
There were 4 Lotus that attended - our Sprint, an ELAN S3 coupe, an Exige, and a V8 Esprit.
I haven’t taken the Elan out for 3 weeks as it’s been so wet in Wales. But today was surprisingly sunny with no rain forecast so I took the opportunity to take it out for what will probably be the last time this year. Just a 61 mile round trip visiting local towns and villages up the Wye valley (Monmouth, Redbrook, Tintern). The village shop in Redbrook sells local bacon and sausages (also Wild boar from the Forest of Dean). Stella books in Tintern sell rare and collectable books, and have a large car/motorsport section, so there’s usually something new in.
A photo of the car in Redbrook (with leaves in the air intake), and parked outside Stella books (Wireworks bridge and abbey in distance). As it was Halloween a couple of days ago I also took a photo of the ruined St Mary’s church (above Tintern abbey). Total mileage for this year is 1078, which makes it a fairly good year for me.
