Oh Loch Fyne Hotel… If it’s good enough for Harry Metcalfe it’s good enough for me ….

That first photo sums up why side intrusion protection on a road going Elan is (IMHO) completely pointless. I mean, what are the chances of being side swiped by another Elan?

Mike

The reason I am so pleased my elan has a full roll cage

Topic drift alert:grin:, however, on my S4 the so called side impact bars are connected to the foot well intrusion bars which I wouldn’t like to test but hopefully they will assist in a typical head on offside front to offside front impact where the drivers side wheel enters the foot well. Ouch!

Drive safely folks, enjoy your cars

Never mind, Mark! At least the Sprint is looking good on its steelies. I just didn’t think the black minilite style suited it; personal opinion, I know.

Looks like you’re enjoying the car, well done!

Tim

Drove back from Wales today…Aberystwyth to Rhayader via the Elan valley.

Roads that lotus were made for!

I drove over to a nearby cars&coffee event this morning and, quite to my surprise, the car was immediately surrounded by (mostly) a dozen or so folks in the twenty-something age bracket. They were not terribly knowledgable but they were terribly curious. No pictures, I blame it on me having been too busy chatting.

A visit to the Commando Memorial for those lost in WW2 and other conflicts…. Very moving.

And my better half, not too happy with all the pot holes…

And the tourist trap rip off that is Eileen Dolan Castle…

Also with a very somber memorial to the McCrae clan…

More tomorrow :+1::+1::pickup_truck:

I visited the Western Highlands about 15 years ago, the potholes were horrendous but the scenery made it worth it. Applecross pass was the most memorable drive with a wonderful pub lunch in the village, the best langoustine I have ever tasted.

Agreed the Castle looks stunning but loses its appeal being a 20th century reconstruction.

Enjoy the rest of your visit

Today we went across Applecross and took the coast road. Now at the Old Inn Gairloch.

A great road for views…

Not today, but a couple of weeks ago Neil and I both took our Elans on a weekend drive through the twisty roads of NE Oklahome, along with friends in Healeys, Minis, BMW’s, a Rover, an ancient Volvo, and a Mustang.

But yeah, the two Elans were the coolest cars there, of course.

We were one of 3,596 cars that set a Guinness world record for the largest classic car parade, as part of the 100th anniversary of Route 66 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Fantastic and well done.
I’d have loved to have been a part of it, but I’m a lot more than 24hrs from Tulsa,
