Weber throttle linkage play

Does anyone with THIS kind of linkage for webers, experience this amount of play, in this piece?

Before I tear it apart to figure out a solution, maybe this ‘wheel has been invented’ before?

Greg,
I don’t recognize that linkage. Here is a pic of my old Dellorto set up which is the same as for Webers.

Hope this helps.
Cheers
John

Hi Greg

Ayttached is a photo of the TTR linkage which has a tophat spacer/washer between the 2 link arms. no play in the linkage.

Andy

Greg, you do have a lot of slack there!

Your linkage is definitely non-original, the original Weber throttle lever looked like this:

There is a barrel with a slot that fits in the lever. The end of the throttle cable “casing” fits into the barrel & the end of the cable fits into the slot that you can see in the bracket off the air intake housing, shown center in your photo.

John I notice in your picture that the coil of the return spring is oriented toward the engine, while mine is oriented toward the air intake housing, maybe that is a Dell’Orto vs, Weber difference?

Thanks Batfish, looks to be the same linkage I have, ie, low profile type, sold by RD Ent. here in the US.
I chose to use only one cable. I bought the linkage used but it had very little play in it at the time but it
has grown. Time for teardown, I guess.

Thanks Phil. I had problems with the hairpin spring popping out with the original setup, hence the change
to this type. I think I’ll revisit the original setup.

I’m having that issue! Not completely out, but it has disengaged from one side…

Hmm, interesting. Time to do some forum searching… We might be missing a trick here.

I give the top end of the hairpin spring that goes through the carb lever a small bend which stops it slipping out but does not prevent its removal.

The other curved end should go through the hole in the air-box back plate bracket and not be able to come out once the top end is in the carb lever.

cheers
