Was thread searching, now Fiberglass work

Guys, let me just say one word…Tyvek. Thanks so much for the suggestion. Picked up a box of six Tyvek hooded suits from Grainger for $50. Best money I have spent in awhile. No itchin, no scratchin, light and easy to work in, reusable…and I can now visit the meth lab down the street with confidence.

thanks,

Anyone out there witha S-3 Coupe with the front windshield glass out?? Just confirming some of my measurements…would someone mind taking a vertical measurement of the windshield opening, in the middle of the opening, right to left. Fiberglass edge to fiberglass edge. Thanks in advance

Mike

Mike,

Sorry…if it was the rear screen aperture you were interested in I could have helped.

But to clarify what you need ref: “vertical” & “right to left”

Do you mean horizontal (right to left) or vertical (top to bottom) or both?

Cheers - Richard

Sorry, to clarify, just need a vertical measurement of the windshield opening mid car.

I had lots of help from the forum many moons ago with this problem

The thread includes S4 measurements which I’m pretty sure should be the same …

The screen is out of my S3 coupe at the moment and I’ll measure it when I get home tonight, should be in about 5-6 hours from now. I’ll post the dimensions then. Top to bottom of middle of the screen - is that correct?

Regards

Adam

Yes, that is what I need…I will also review the thread. Just want to do some rechecking before things get glassed into place. I have had the windshield out of mine now for about 2 years and want to double check that temps or body platforms have not caused it to move, flex or droop. Just sayin…

I learned my lesson the hard way when it comes to removing glass early in a restoration of a fiberglass body. In trying to re-install both front and rear glass after everything else was done, I found the openings had shrunk and am now having a very difficult time getting the glass back in. I can trim the front glass, by using a slow moving sanding belt with water as a lubricant, and most likely will not damage the original glass. Most glass shops have one of these belt systems. But the rear is whole other problem. The glass is tempered and everyone tells me there is nothing you can do to reduce the size, without shattering the glass. When I get through this problem, I will be starting another restoration of a glass bodied car. Will leave the glass in place until just before paint and then immediately re-install the glass. I’ve had several so called glass experts try where I have failed, and they all gave up after about 3 hours of trying. Tried all the custom car builders in the area, along with making contact with people in the custom/hotrod magazine business. Not a lot of help there as well.
