What should you pay for a running, but needs to be completely rebuilt ford/lotus 1600 twin cam???

They seem to go for ?1500 - ?2500 if running, but I would take the head off first to determine it’s thickness, the state of the waterways, valve seats and combustion chambers.

I haven’t seen many in that range of late, actually 1500 quids seems only to get you a bag of untested parts and most likely incomplete, 3000 a smoky unit if of appropriate casting (and with Stromberg head), then 6000 you can start getting reconditioned units and if you double again you get into prepared race engines to my understanding.
Don’t be tempted by the several twin cams available from Aberdeen on Craigslist for the ?2500 mark. Total scam
See eBay uk for a solid reconditioned twink for around ?6500 and a full race one with carbs etc for ?11500 ish.
Imho you are about 10 years out of touch with the price

Bought one 6 months ago for ?2400, stripped and in good condition, but needing re-building. Bored +20, standard crank. Head original thickness but needed a very light skim. Needs bore and grind, valves, seats and guides along with all the bits and pieces.
Bought a similar one, not quite so good, 4 years back for ?2000 ish.
Neither had the carbs, distributor, dynamo, or sandwich plates.
I’l let you know when I find another. They are out there!
