shifting problems

My Plus two (1968) is developing a rather pesky shifting problem. When I try to change gears somtime it simply does not want to go into gear. If I let the clutch out and engage it again then it usually works. I’m guessing the slave cylinder is going…any thoughts???

  • slave or master. Seems you have air in the hydraulics…!

Glen,
At the back of my mind I seem to remember that I had similar problems with an early plus 2; turned out to be the flexible (plastic) pipe between the master and slave cylinders being affected by engine heat.

Could be just to much slack in the adjustable push rod on the slave cylinder.

I’e got a similar problem on a rebuilt gearbox. I’ve narrowed down to master cylinder seals - check for fluid running down back of clutch pedal in the footwell!

Don’t want to worry you & check all the other options first, but could be the gearbox input shaft spigot bearing (in the flywheel). I had one pack up a while back… Made gearchanges a lottery, especially reverse.

I had the same problem in my 7 trany -had to double clutch into 4th over 4000 rpm --turns out the syncros are history ---- ----ED
