Seeking New Owner for the Lotus Elan Registry

Hello everyone,

After founding the Lotus Elan Registry in January 2003 and maintaining it for over two decades, I’ve made the difficult decision to step down and find a new steward.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to each of you who has contributed, shared, and supported the registry over the years. It’s been a privilege to build and share this platform with this community. Your contributions have made it an valuable resource.

Why I’m Stepping Down
Over the past decade, my personal interests have shifted, and I can no longer dedicate the necessary time and attention to the registry. Rather than let it decline, I believe it’s time to pass it on to someone who can give it the care and enthusiasm the Elan community deserves.

What Now?
My goal is to hand this off to someone else to maintain.

  • For a smooth transition, I’m happy to help with
    • The full website and domain transfer.
    • A complete database export of all registry data.
    • All relevant documentation and technical details.
    • Or any combination of the above that works best for the new steward
    • A flexible timeline for transition, and availability for questions for six months post-transition

Timeline: If a new owner doesn’t come forward, the registry will become read-only in October 2025. I will continue hosting it until the current hosting plan expires, ensuring all data remains available during this period.

Is this You or Someone You Know?
The ideal new steward would be someone who is:

  • Passionate about Lotus Elans and the community.
  • Capable of website maintenance. The website was developd using custom PHP code. It will continue to work for awhile as is, but will eventually need some TLC.
  • Committed to keeping this resource alive for fellow enthusiasts.

Get in Touch!
If you’re interested in taking over this project or have any questions, please reach out to me directly. I’m happy to discuss the details and work together to ensure a smooth transition that benefits the Lotus Elan community.

I’d be thrilled to see the Elan Registry continue its journey under new leadership.

Be nice to be here, obviously Jeff knows tons about website management so maybe it could be integrated into lotuselan.net? Thanks for doing it all this time.

If there’s no objection, I can ask the Golden Gate Lotus Club if they’d be interested.

Either of those options is fine with me. I’ll work with whomever would like to take over. I also heard from another forum member who may wish to take things over.

Many thanks for your dedication to the brand. Whilst I have not been on the site much in latter years but during the early years while I restored my S4 the information I gained was invaluable to a point that I rarely used the two expensive workshop manuals I purchased.

Cheers from Ian in Australia.

Hi Jim,

Sorry I don’t have the skills to help but I would like to thank you for your dedication over the years.

Like many I’ve used it and it’s be a great resource.

Hoping it finds a new custodian, and hope you have an exciting post registery life!

Thanks for your efforts Jim; it’s a great resource.

In addition the comments in the thread, I’ve received several very nice PM’s expressing thanks for keeping the registry alive.

I’m working with someone to transition support activity and eventually full stewardship of the registry. We both agree that this is a resource for all of us and we are stewards of the data.

In the meantime, please use the email address [email protected] if you need to reach us.

I’ll let the other person introduce themselves on thier own.

Terrific news, I’ve always updated my elan details on the site. V

Happy new year to all, just reading through all of these things as I usually do and came across this again, so what’s the status? I’d hate to lose it, Gordon.

I’m working with @gherlt. He’s picking up some of the development and getting to know how the system works. We’ve talked a few times and I think he is going to do a great job and continue to keep the ElanRegistry around and make it even better for the community.
