S3 SS interior door handle source found

I just received a couple interior door handles intended for Ford Populars Model 103E/104E 1953-59, that, with the correct Lotus machining, should result in a replacement for the S3 SS door handles.

Purchased here: vintagecarparts.co.uk/produ … andle-ford

See comparative photo attached. The one in the foreground is the Lotus part, with clearance bevel, slightly shorter barrel and larger hole through barrel for retaining pin. Despite the effect of perspective in the picture, they’re the same size.

Thank you for posting this. This is a great find! I’ve been hoping and praying to find a source or nos handle for my ss as the tab which holds it secure on the square fitting of the handle has broken. I feared that I would have to cast my own or try a repair figuring they were unobtanium after much cross reference hunting. Thanks again, a huge help and great find.

You will probably find these “original NOS” handles appearing on Ebay at an inflated price very soon

It’s finds like this that make LotusElan.net such a great resource

My S3 handles look nothing like these. Are mine not correct or were the USA handles different?

The top one was fitted to the car when I bought it in the mid 70s. The bottom one I made in aluminium as I have lost one.

What does SS signify?

The SS was a special S3 version denoting “Super Safety” to meet changed USA regulations before the S4 was introduced. Major differences was interior rocker switches and different door handles to remove sharp objects from the cabin and reversed ears on the knock ons to removed the sharp objects from the exterior.

Ah, thanks. However, I can’t quite equate Elan and Super Safety
