I’m trying to install newly fabbed side trim panels to my early S2. The steel webbing has some sheet metal that suggests sheet metal screws right through the panel??
Then around the door aperature, I’d expect a u shaped door seal as on the S3+. But I seem to remember seeing an aluminum panel and no traditional door seal.
Any clues/photos…???
Also I had a miserable time fitting the windscreen frame-to-body seal correctly. It still looks lousy. Any tricks or preferred seals to use?
Door Seal is fitted to the door in S1/2 as can be seen in the photos. The Aluminium protector lips over the edge of the upholstered panel and is screwed to the panel along it’s bottom edge.
I’ve tried to adjust levels in the photos to more clearly show the area in question.
Pictures are of the Yellow S1 on show at Donnington 2008
I really appreciate your help. I’ll fab the aluminum panels to look similar. I had forgotten that the seals are on the door and they have long since disappeared.
Is there anyting on the aft vertical door aperature, or does the panel flop about a bit? The aft upper edge seems to be retained by the rear carpet finish strip.
These pictures are from my car and may help. I cannot vouch for originality as the car was retrimmed by Chris Neils in late 80’s. (I liked oatmeal at the time). Also I have the later plus 2 seats squeezed in which prevents a clear view.
The original Aluminium plate was patterned. Others on hear may be able to say exactly what this pattern was (Cricket weave?). I’m missing both pieces - Wish I knew where they went to, as I had them for a long time and then I noticed they were missing. Strange!!!
…and don’t forget the seal that is held by the riveted alloy plate (picture 1) Its keeping the water out that is collected by the windscreen and led to the door top / body / windscreen junction. Its a lot of water that enters here…
The original arrangement can be seen in some windscreenframe pictures
from Gary Andersons blue car.
(I see these seals missing very often - as for my car, I know what I’m talking about )
