Yesterday afternoon I took a phone call from Steve’s wife Sue. She told me that Steve had sadly passed away at1:30pm.
God rest, Steve.
Steve had a knack, if it can be called that, of finding a bargain pigs ear and then turning it into a silk purse. He also was a stickler for originality and initiated the re-manufacture of several hard to find Elan parts.
His cars often took years to come good and he managed to find some interesting variations of Elan.
In his later years Steve suffered a number of hard knock medical issues, including the amputation, at different times, of both legs. Throughout this he managed to remain his usual cheerful self, even if it didn’t look like it! He was always an enthusiast for our cars, a passion that never dimmed.
Steve’s wishes are that his death passes unremarked, with no fuss, no funeral or memorial. However, we who knew him mourn his passing, will miss him and send our condolences, thoughts and prayers to his wife Sue and their three children.
Steve was a real character and an absolute elan fanatic … he had been very kind & helpful to me in recent years (even if I did nearly pass out when he gave me a “cut by cut” description of what to expect when I had my hip replacement ) !
