Rechroming S3 parts

A search doesn’t reveal any new ideas regarding rechroming the tail light surrounds and window channels on the S3. They are severely pitted due to 10 years of neglect, Does anyone have any experience in the US with such work? The fuel filler cap is easily replaced.

Send a pm to zog. He knows a good plater in Chicago, very reasonable. He was my intermediary so I don’t know the name of the shop. I had my Sprint rear bezels done
and I’m very happy with the job. I also had them do the gas filler cap. I just didn’t want a repro. If they
screwed it up, I would have bought the repro but they did a great job. Importantly, the did NOT buff out the
sharp character lines in the cap. Plating on the cap was about $75.

My local rechromer did mine about 15 years ago, they still look great.

Paul’s Chrome Plating, Mars Pa, not cheap, but good work.

Thanks everyone.

If pitting is very severe, Re-plating company may advise not to re chrome as holes will be inevitable. This is what I’ve found in UK.
Now have a new rear unit on order.

Thanks. Before I spend on new rear light surrounds and window frames I’ll black all the chrome and go Stealth.

I took mine off sanded down the bumps, used filler in the pits, smoothed lots more and then finally painted them the same colour as my bumpers.

I’ve had pitted monkey metal successfully re chromed in the UK to a very good standard (beter than original) so it’s all perfectly possible…if you’re prepared to pay enough :open_mouth:

I had my S3 window channels stripped and re-chromed in Houston. I swear they’re now the most valuable parts on the car! But they do twinkle nicely.
