Hello. Want to upgrade my radiator cooling fan to something more powerful. On a hot day, particularly when the wind is blowing from behind the car, the temperature can get a bit high in heavy traffic. May be a Revotec - 7.6 amp/91Wcompared to the existing 5amp/6W - should be quite a bit stronger? Also any thoughts on push or pull, front or rear of the rad? All comments much appreciated. Thanks, Nick
In answer to your questions:
All other things being equal, more power consumption by the fan equals more puff, so a fan consuming more power will likely provide a better airflow and better cooling.
Its cramped between the radiator and the engine, so to avoid blocking some of the available space for air to flow, fans that mount on the front of the radiator and blow through the rad are probably a better bet.
No good just recirculating hot air so make sure the rad has foam along the top to seal against the bonnet, the side panels are intact and the millboard skirt between the bottom of the rad and the steering rack is in place.
Lotus recommend cutting a couple of holes in the left hand inner wing to improve airflow, so if you haven’t got those it is worth considering.
Finally if you have a wimpy S4 / Sprint rad, consider fitting the larger S3 or an aftermarket higher performance rad from a firm like Coolex.
Edit: FWIW there have been a couple of threads on here where fans blowing the wrong way have been fitted by previous owners. It sounds obvious, but just check your existing fan blows the right way.
All good advice.
Make sure you separate the hot air zone (behind the rad) from the cold air side ( e.g. With baffles and foam. Particularly at the top of the rad where the hot air is.)
Large enough fan with proper feed, relay and fuse to protect it. I prefer spal fans as there is a very good range and they are very reliable.
1000-1500 cfm fan is suggested for a 1500cc engine
Make sure your radiator is in good condition and thermostat is in place. With elans you can consider the wider rad with more rows of fins if you really need to.
Together this usually sorts cooling issues

Thank you Andy. Thank you Tim. Very helpful. Have no baffles or foam, or indeed millboard skirt I think. See Tony Thompson do the foam. No holes in wing either, so will rectify this. Together with a stronger fan this should do the job. Will take a look at Spal. With thanks again
Looks ideal. What make and size fan is that? Thanks!
