A bit of a strange question but there was a user with an avatar showing a baby Elan with a white paint job with what apeared to be a blue and red arrow ‘racing stripe’ . By that i mean the racing strip culminated at the bonnet with 2 or 3 arrows heads… not sure if i am making any sense but if that user is on line I would dearly love to see a nice picture of it as Im looking for interesting designs for my +2. Firuged i would post about it here and hope for the best as I cant find the user anymore.
If someone knows what that design is based of or who that user is that would be great too…
That’s my colors.
I am pleased you like them.
Nothing to add, apart that these ll not look right on any +2, and if you still think about having these on your’s, think twice.
Better found your own, as I do.
See you, Adam.
“OEW”
Apologies about the baby Elan comment, given I have a +2 I always think of the original Elan as its baby brother, due to its dimensions rather than age ofcourse. No offence was intended, I love them both especially the sprint.
Sorry OEW I didn?t mean to step on your territory, but have no fear i would always ask before copying a design - besides I am in a land far away from France (I?m in Australia) so even if I did copy I doubt we would ever cross paths.
Im still really keen on having an interesting paint scheme for my +2 so will keep hunting, a racing stripe of some kind seems likely… open to idea if ppl know of any.
I thought about the same issue for a long time and had BRG with a yellow stripe in mind and various other none standard themes but with time I came to the conculsion that the Plus 2 is such a lovely shape that it does not require an outlandish colour scheme to show it at its best.
I eventually settled on Wedgwood Blue, and no stripes or similar - nice and subtle and very 60’s.
Also, as values seem to be increasing for good Plus 2’s, I thought it best to try and keep it ‘in period’ visually.
You might find, with time to reflect, that you reach the same conclusion.
If not however, Gulf blue with an orange stripe or nose band might look nice
Yeah you are probably right… i go through phases where i want it outlandish and then stick with stock… but in taking the paint off my shell i have noticed it has been several colours in its life!
It was recently red, then a metallic blue i think and the earliest coat i can see remanets of is like a maroon red colour… it was like an archaeological dig taking the paint off (and its not all off yet)!!
Will keep looking! Golf blue with an orange stripe would be cool… if not super outlandish!
Those of us who own Elans, tend to think of the +2 as some kind of embarrassing younger fat cousin. Not really.
The best-looking +2 I ever saw was painted in a really nice Ferrari colour- not Retail Red but Titanio Grigio, which is a lovely light metallic silver; this showed off the subtle curves of the +2 to superb effect.
That’s a really good job at putting a stripe on… i have tried a few time and haven’t done as well! I actually like the offset stripe, different but racy!
I think i will pass on the animal wrap but i’m sure i’d get a few extra looks!! Tho a sexy lotus is usually enough even in the stock red! Also thanks for the link to the other thread there are some nice suggestions there.
I will have to start a resto thread and let everyone know how i go… however after taking paint off the front the fiberglass needs a bit of repair work…
Interesting, after a quick google search its a real nice subtle silver but i think a flat colour might be the way i lean towards…
Please, do not take my post personnal .
Just found (very) surprising that a (another) newbie on that great forum, before introducing itself (Yes, it was your first post), find more convenient to grab information on me, and my car.
You are not the only one, be re-insured.
Speaking about having some stripes on your +2, my comment still stand.
The +2 is not that kind of car that desserve a racing guise. A 2 tones color scheme will do it better for its GT aspirations, unless you allready had yours race modified.
About the “OEW” colors, think that it was a mix of a few: Chaparall’s, Porsche 908 TargaFlorio, Ferrari 250 GTO TdF, and one of the most famous australian drivers of the sixteens: Ian ?Peter? Geoghegan. So australian or not, keep going your way with a minimum of creativity… And please(again) don’t do like the GT40’s replica owner’s and their Gulf colors!
Christian.
Never fear, I have a pretty good sense of humour and a thick skin so I don’t really take offence personally to much!
I can defiantly see where you got your inspiration from I am big fan of the 908 when I first saw your car I thought of them. While I know of the 908’s I have to say my knowledge of 60’s Australian racers is a little limited, I’m only 29 so a little before my time but I can see again the inspiration there!
Technically that was my first post under this name but I actually registered a long while ago when I first got my lotus under a different name but have totally forgotten my details so when I signed up again I forgot to introduce myself… a faux pas on my behalf. I will make amends and post in the welcome section!
Never fear, my interest in OEW is simply for inspiration and as my old arts teacher told me once you should never be upset as someone copying you as it is the greatest form of flattery.
P.S I don’t think I will ever paint in golf colours, I’ll leave that to Porsche and GT40 owners! However I have to disagree on one point I think the +2’s look great in race trim and I think my rebuild will include a few ‘race’ mods, I hope!
