Wanting to have some spare carb parts here, for the shelf.
I am sure it is good to have a rebuild kit, but should I also have some more shafts, and seals…
I have an array of spare parts for my S3 Elan, but I don’t have any spare carb parts.
I have had my car for 25 years and the only carb parts I have needed in that time were those required to reattach the Webers to the head after an engine removal (Thackeray washers and O rings). Maybe I have been lucky, I don’t do that many miles in a year.
Each time I make an order for “essential” items, I usually throw a few service items in to bulk up the order to get the best value for shipping costs and so that I have a few service items readily available. Things like cam cover gaskets, brake/clutch seal kits, air and oil filters, engine mounts, head gasket sets etc. Have not considered throwing carb parts in. Will see whether others recommend a stock of service parts.
Right and I suppose the poor quality of the OEM stuff because it’s all made of China under no quality control anyway versus just generic crap off the shelf parts versus what people can make in their garage or shop or cobble together with some quality parts!
Hi,
I had my Elan for 15 years and the Weber 151 Spanish carbs were new and unused. I never needed any spares in that time. I did change some jets while improving the tuning over the years but they are readily available at short notice.
I suppose it is worth having some float chamber gaskets in case you tear one but otherwise I don`t see any need for keeping stock parts. Once set up they seem to last a long time.

There really are no ‘hard’ service parts you need to keep for the carbs as they don’t wear out and are pretty easy to source through several retailers. Just use a reputable source. I use Pierce Manifolds in the US. By ‘hard’ I mean the brass calibration bits like jets, bleeds, tubes, etc. Mounting o-rings and banjo fitting crush washers could come in handy if dismounting the carbs. Otherwise, keeps the carbs wet (drive the car!) and they will last decades.
Yes, Pierce Manifolds has great technical support and good prices
