Here’s what I just put in my profile: Retired semi-old guy in NorCal. Been around race cars, race motorcycles, race karts, race bicycles pretty much my entire life. I’m planning on picking up a project S2 Elan without engine/trans shortly and building it up. Possibly Kawasaki C14 engine (I already have one). We’ll see.
The new to me '66 S2 has been sitting outside under a cover in the Los Altos Hills so it’s been subjected to the vagaries of rodents over the years. Gonna need a lotta work. I’ve done it before but never with one of these. Film at eleven…
Here’s some pitchers of the target Elan. It’s a hot mess. Hood doesn’t open. Doors don’t open. No keys. No title. Passenger rear brake is frozen. Etc. Gonna be a blast!
Looks like an excellent basis for a project! I’m constantly amazed at how many derelict Elans are still about, given the low production numbers. By now you’d think they had all been rescued/revived.
This is actually the third derelict Elan in NorCal. There’s a completely disassembled one without drivetrain and a new Spyder chassis for 8 Large. And then there’s a crash damaged one at the Napa, CA (still in NorCal) with Webers and a partially disassembled top end. Hasn’t come up for auction and I’ve been watching it for probably two months.
