Metallifacture jack

Can someone provide the measurements for the lifting end of a Metallifacture jack?

Thanks

Please advise which type of Elan this is for.

What lotus Elan…? If it’s a Plus 2, I can provide what you need… pls let us know…Tony

1970 Elan +2, jack end fits up into the sill tube.
Thanks

Here are pictures of the jack and ratchet of my 1971 Plus 2 S130

Hope they come thru: I ve never posted photos before…, ! Tony

Here is a side view of the jack from my 1971 plus2 S130 …Hope it helps… Tony

Pictures are worth a thousand words, thanks for the pictures and your time.

As an aside, I have one of these jacks but not the handle. Assuming no damage, is the jack worthwhile enough to seek the handle, or would I be better served with something else, such as a modern lightweight scissor-type with modification to engage the jacking points? Yes, I’ve seen the thread about how to do that.

I tend to look for original parts and accessories when viewing a vehicle. All of that shows well at car shows and meets.
The Metallifacture jack for the Elan +2 is actually hard to find. I ended up with a Metallifacture jack from a Cortina, that is why I was looking for the measurement of the jacking pin.
Correct handles come up quite often on eBay UK.
Have you changed the side sills, if you haven’t make sure to do a thorough inspection of all 4 jacking points. Each jack tube is welded in 2 spots. The top weld on mine was good but the bottom was rusted away, so no support.
If you think that you would like to part with the jack, let me know.

Such handles come in various length but also square hole size, make sure you check some dimensions before embarking on long distance shipping…

I’ve recently refurbed a +2 jack , hopefully in the correct colour if there is one ? , are the later ones black ?- seen some red ! are there any rules to follow ?.This came from Mark K in the forest and still had quite a bit of its original battleship grey paint.

This one came with a +2 but is obviously from an elan [ which i don’t have] , thought i might as well blast and paint this while i was at it, has a different style of metallifacture frame , over painted in hammerite it still had the grey paint inside.

The Metallifacture jack , wether with the ‘spike’ for going into the sill holes as in the Plus2 or the channel type that goes on the baby Elan, both share one disadvantage over their scissor equivalents: they are useless if you have a puncture on a wheel quite close to a kerb ! I know from experience…!

Amazing thread guys .
Was just away to post a question asking for Jack sizes.

hi Stevh,
i think the Peg on your +2 Jack is welded in the wrong position. I think it should be in the centre of the Pad at the top not the front edge.
Alan

Perhaps from a strict engineerng viewpoint but I suspect it is not going to clear the curvature in the sill if it’s in the centre/axial position.

Hi Jono +1 ,
I didn’t think of that.
I know for my Sprint original Jack for me is just for polishing. Tried to use it once and very dodgy. Lots of noises and the thrust bearing in it broke.
Use Scissor Jack now and Plank of wood under the Sill.
Alan

That was my initial thought Alan, but it is the correct position as Jon said to clear the cill edge. The jack in the earlier reply by TonyA is also the same as mine.

On the subject of jacks, my Plus 2 came with an Elan Metallifacture jack that I was going to convert by removing the platform and fitting a pin so if anyone wants to swap for the Plus 2 one I’m up for it.

…it needs a refurb but otherwise all good
