Lotus Elan Factory Workshop manual online

The S1, S2, Coupe service parts book used to be online but the site is gone. Likewise the S1 workshop manual is also gone.

Hi Gary - have you got a local copy of the missing files that could use use to upload again?

Hi Steve

Elan_S1_S2_Coupe_Masterpartslist.pdf - 15 megabytes

Elan_Type_26_Service_Manual.pdf - 40 magabytes

Yes I have copies of both but no way to get them uploaded unless you know of a host that I can put them on.

Gary

It might be prudent to check with the Lotus lawyers first. :smiling_imp:

Thanks guys. Great links. Anyone know of workshop manual for the Plus 2?

Also find the parts catalog on Ray’s site very handy, although I don’t think they can be saved to your own computer:

rdent.com/manuals/index.html

Thanks Gary…my old paper manual is getting pretty hard to read for some reason.

Any chance these links could be put in the Library section?

John

I’m not sure if Jeff wants to put them up on elan.net even if I could get them off of my computer. Its been available before and I have posted links as have others and those that took the time to follow the links posted have copies of it now. I tried to mail the smaller one to Steve with outlook and it died after tranfering 17 meg (hour and 45 minutes with dialup) and now I can’t get the mail to send anything. My Yahoo mail has a 10 meg limit on messages so its stuck on my pc for now. maybe someone else has it and is not dialup challenged like I am.

I use yousendit to send large files. It is free. There are other services available also.

I have a website with room for several manuals. If you can send it either through the Internet or snail-mail a CD-ROM to me I’ll make it available to everyone on LotusElan.net.

I am still working on a method to upload the files. Dialup isn’t an option right now. The PC is a piece of junk from where I worked 7 years ago, there’s no CD burner. It does have a usb port so I am going to upload some pdf’s onto the gigabyte flash card in the camera and off load the files to some people that have more modern junk then I do. Stay tuned…

Gary

I’ve had some very large files sent to me through the following link:

yousendit.com/mktg/landing_m … QgodFyXwTg

Or even the links themselves?

John

I managed to download the entire manual, I suspect that the issue with the Intro and sections A and B is the size… 16mb, 5.6mb and a massive 31mb respectively means that it takes a while (go make a cup of tea).
I saved to external HDD and now just need a cheapy PC to run in the shed and access the manual on an LCD

These books contain copyright so should not be reproduced with permission of Lotus Cars.

Manuals are still available from Lotus dealerships
X036T0327J - Lotus Elan workshop manual
X036T0325J - Lotus Elan parts list
X050T0327J - Elan +2 workshop manual
X050T0325J - Elan +2 parts list

 Did you mean ‘should not be reproduced withOUT permission from Lotus Cars’ :exclamation:

hi Andy

Is Lotus still selling the S1, S2, Coupe parts manual? Do you have ther S1 workshop manual 26T327 available? These have long been out of print, these are very useful tools for all Elan owners up through the Sprint. If these manuals are not available how can we make it so that they are. What is the price to be paid to Lotus for the priveledge to use these reference materials for ones personal use. I am not trying to be a jerk here, I just want people to be able to talk about Lotus Elans and be able to communicate effectively without have to take photos everytime we talk of a problems that are more easilly said with pictures/diagrams

Gary

p.s. Jame allington did a wonderful job of illustrating in these manuals.

The Elan books I quoted covers S1 through to S4.

Hi Gordon, rather than an old PC, just print the section you are about to use when you need it.
I use the soft copy to help me keep my printed copy in good condition.

Just use the section you have printed, get it oily / wet / coffee stained … and throw it away!

Seems like this may be worth revisiting, I know the search function is a bit of pain to use but it took me about 5 minutes to find this old post. Lots of new folks on the site and it tough to work on an Elan without a good workshop manual. If you haven’t bought one you ought to, If you can’t spare the change then download a copy and print it out so that you can refer to it, make notations, and in gerenal know/learn what you are doing/working on. I don’t know how I could have ever got may car running without a manual over 30 years ago and I guess today I have forgotten more than I care to admit but not so much that I sometime I think I am wasting my time at certain points in my life.

Hope is all well with everyone, hope to see some folks in October at the LOG30 in Gettysburg.
