Hydrualic pressure brake switch

Hi all. I took my hydraulic switch out of the drawer where it’s been for some years, and wondered where to fit it. I now find that the parts manual shows a the switch in the 4 way union on the front right of the chassis. I have a 4 way union with no switch, fitted to the chassis, and an inline hydraulic switch - i.e. single inlet and single outlet. So has anyone else got this set up or is this another one of the bits in the boxes that came with the car that actually doesn’t belong on the car? Is there a mechanical switch set up for the brake pedal? If anyone else has this set up where did you mount the inline switch - presumably it’s got to be close to the union for the wires to reach. I have a '72 +2 S130/5

Thanks.

Sean.

p.s. I really wish we could have avatars on this site. Thanks.

Sean
The Plus2S 130 / 5 normally had a mechanical switch on the front of the pedal box under the hood. I believe some early versions used a hydraulic switch but dont know where it was located.

Dont know why you cant have avatar - most everyone has one?

Ok. That makes sense. I’ll have a look and see if I can find the mechanical switch. I had a feeling that it was a mechanical set up rather than hydraulic - simpler too. Probably the wiring loom is the first place to look.

On the avatar I thought I’d read that they couldn’t be set up now, and haven’t been able to find where to define it. I’ll have another look.

All the best.

Sean.

Hi Sean

I have just refurbed my early pedalbox (see pics in wanted section) and there is no switch.
I believe there is a pressure switch but have not looked for it yet.

So if you have an early pedalbox then you may still need the pressure switch.

Jason

I believe mine will be a late pedal box, as the car was man. in '72. I’ll check for the differences in the manuals.

It would be much easier if I could use a mechanical switch, as otherwise I’ve got to drill a hole and bend pipes to fit, which I’d rather not disturb now. Having said that, I’ve got a hydraulic switch. I think I’ll decide based on the wiring loom.

Thanks.

Hi Sean

I have just looked in the parts manual, it says that the manual switch is fitted from chassis No. 0929 it screws into the rear of the pedalbox.

The hydraulic switch is screwed into the front 4 way union where the brake pipe runs from front to back.

Hope this helps

Jason

Ah! So that’s what the little captive nut’s for - I’d not noticed that in the parts manual. Thanks guys. My chassis is #986 so it’s definately the switched type. I don’t think I have a switch though. Presumably this’ll be a Sue Miller or Mattys purchase.

All the best.

Sean.
