Lovely looking car.

My father would have raced against that back in the days when Howard owned it.

And interesting to see that Richard has been maintaining it. He also ran my dad’s cars. I can imagine it must be a very well put together car if it won the championship.

Hi Chris,

That is interesting, what is your dad’s name?

Richard has done things for me like gearbox and diff rebuilds which he is especially good at, I’ve done most everything else in the way of mods and preparation, it only failed to finish at one meeting when the oil pressure gauge take off snapped pulling onto the grid at Donington a few years ago. Apart from that a 100% record

It is a wonderful car and I will miss it greatly,

please tell me what you know about its history and your dad driving it,

best regards

jez

Mr father’s name is Alan. He raced a lot from probably the mid 90s to the mid 2010s. He had 2 elans because he wanted to compete both in the 70s road sports and the 60s championship (I think the swinging 60s if memory serves).

These were his cars:

The yellow one had a major prang and then a chassis up rebuild and became a black car after that but I don’t seem to have any photos of it after that point.

Are these photos of your car? Judging by the background I would say it looks like it is Silverstone? Probably 2009

£35K for a championship winning car is a very reasonable price. Richard Hayhow (RNH) built my Historic Roadsports S3 many years ago to a very good standard, I didn’t realise he was still in business. Having just had my engine rebuilt by CBR, I can also recommend Craig’s work.

I would have thought that it would cost double the price being offered to build a car like this from scratch. If I didn’t already have one competition car I don’t use, I would be very tempted.
