Heater connections

Hi All,

Wonder if someone can help; I bought my '66 S2 elan as a basket case with most of the interior bits out of the car. How does the heater fit to the plenum chamber? Are there brackets that hold it in place or is it just sealed to the plenum and that holds it in place?

Thanks for any help,

Cheers,

Simon

There is a upsidedown T shaped bracket that that dasboard attaches to with (2) 1/4 20 slot head screws that also bolts to the chassis through the body under the dash with a pair of 3/8 unf bolts. This holds up the back of the heater. there are no screws on the S2 that hold the heater in place. The Coupes and S3 modified this design and used two phillips screws into the heater plennum.

I could post a picture tomorrow (if needed)
My heater is out and the bracket ready for painting.

Yes please , that would be helpful.

I’ll be very interested too. I bought less than a basket case a few weeks ago…a '66 S2 that had a dash fire in 1973 and was taken apart…and that was how I bought it. Missing the heater, dash, instruments, switches, steering column, handbrake etc., but good old eBay has come up with just about everything I need so far. The heater I bought was from an early S3, without the side ‘eyeball’ air outlets, so I guess it is the same as an S2.
So I will probably ask some dumb questions of you S2-ites in the near future…especially in the door area…it’s missing most of that as well :open_mouth:

here we are…

bottom width is quite exactly 223 mm, angle height (4x 1/4 hole side) 38mm, depth of angle bottom (2x 3/8 hole) is 25mm.
Total height in “working position”: 152mm
Depth between 1/4 hole wall and upright: 30mm, taken from inside of 1/4 wall and outside upright.

It should be possible to shape the curves/angles by making patterns from the pictures.
The bracket is soldered.

PS: I might be able to organise door locks / striker plates / window parts…
