My wife complaints about the lack of a headrest on our plus two fitted with the early seats.
does anyone have suggestions how to retrofit headrests or is the US seat which includes the head rest an option?
Your advice is appreciated
Cheers
Robin
The federal seat comes with the integral headrestalthough my UK supplied +2 had these seats in

Hi Iain,
How did you find these seats. Did they give good headsupport ( for the pax seat)?
Robin
Hi
I have an early car which has the narrow seats. I have headrests that slide over and grip the seats (see pic).
I have asked Sue Miller where they came from as she and Mick sold the car to the previous owner, she says they were not on the car when it left their workshop so the previous owner must have sourced them. Her guess is that they are from an old Skoda? I like them as I can use them and remove them without damaging the original seats.
You could take the heretic’s route and fit Mk1/Mk2 Mazda MX5/Miata seats.

Completely reversable.

I’ve got a set of +2S seats (the high back w/integral head rests) available if you are interested (email me at [email protected].) They are in okay shape but the driver side has some wear. I can send pictures if you are interested. They would benefit from recovering.

I think Elans should be kept original as possible but in this case, adding modern seats without bastardizing the floor pan would be a great improvement.
The Miata and RX7, Toyota MR2, Corolla SR5, Honda Civic, etc; seats are comfy and firm, some even have speakers built into the headrests. Many other cars have excellent seats as well, the +2 is wide enough to accomodate many possibilities.
Maybe having your wife help select would be a ! ? ! ?
Do you have Peugeots in New Zealand? The French seem to make the most comfortable yet lightweight seats.
I’d visit some salvage yards to shop price and comfort. Take a tape measure and good luck with getting the Mrs. onboard with this idea.
Based on my eBay shipping experiences I think sending seats to New Zealand from the States would be astronomical, although they could be nested in a box.
Bengalcharlie,
I didn’t notice that you were in New Zealand when I mentioned I had a set of +2 seats. Sorry. It is correct that shipping to New Zealand would probably be prohibitive. As a matter of fact, if any of you know a relatively cost effective way to send something there I would appreciate the info. I have a Stromberg Head and valve cover (about 50 lbs) that I have to send to a buyer in New Zealand and it looks like it will be well over $200 just for that. If you have any suggestions I’d appreciate it.
Dan
Thanks for all your replies and as always it is good to have so many opinions and solutions offered. In the end I bought some removable headrests recommended to me by Jason. Although I would have considered to go foreign ( even french as suggested) but my early seats have been recovered in leather and I love the seating position.
Hope my wife will be happy with the headrestcovers! they could be too hard, not enough support, wrong shape…and I might end up with new seats anyway!
Will see once I have them shipped from my sister in law in the UK to New Zealand.
Cheers

Just saw these slip on headrests on Ebay thought they may be of use to someone? I have a pair for my early +2 seats.
Nothing to do with me.

If I remember rightly a company called Car-robes made these along with a range of drivers window wind deflectors. The Roots dealers where I work in the early 60’s stocked them.

You should know by now that you can please some of the people some of the time but you can never please a wife?
Tell the wife to sit in the other car because the Plus 2 will run a bit quicker without her and it is much nicer listening to the twin cam than the other half.
