Elan-Fotografien

Over the last 50+ years as a motor-sports photographer I’ve taken “one or two” Elan shots; I asked Jeff if there was going to be a photographs section in the “new forum” and he suggested just starting a thread.
So; as there are already a couple of threads for shots of your own cars, here is the thread for general Elan photos.
This one was taken at Donington Park some while back and shows the size difference between one of our little cars and a Can-Am Mclaren!

Please feel free to join in.

When we think of Lotus in the TV series The Prisoner it is always the Seven which comes to mind but Colin Chapman was a very adept exponent of “product placement” and managed to also get the Elan and Cortina into the series on more than one occasion.

I’ve always been somewhat puzzled by this photo; it was taken at the BOAC 500 meeting (can’t remember the year) and shows one of the Ian Walker Gold Bugs. What I don’t understand is how long was the bodywork like that?

Cambridge Motors Racing Team. Obviously another attempt to solve the “hot diff problem” in racing. No further info on the photograph, unfortunately.

Interesting Elans from the past

Thanks for posting Pete, some great pictures.
The crashed Elan made me wince as it displays the classic situation of the front wheel intruding into the drivers footwell, ouch! :flushed:

A very famous 26/R. Built as a rally car by the Lotus factory and later converted for racing.

3 „Gefällt mir“

Apparently it was being quietly built up at the factory. Chapman found out and immediately put a stop to it.

Pity. I expect it would have been an excellent tarmac rally weapon!

Jim Clark’s Elan, as found in scrapyard, subsequently “restored”. How much of the original car was saved? I don’t know.
