I was just going thro’ the photos I took at the NEC Classic show for my report in Sports Car Digest and I realised that there were hardly ant Elans there this year. This yellow one looked very nice, with the usual door fit issue, although far better than my Sprint.
Does it belong to anyone on here?

It’s always a pleasure to see the Ian Walker Le Mans Gold coupe and it’s owner Martin Stretton; I asked him if he knew what happened to the plan to build several recreations of the coupe and he opined that there were not enough customers at the price being asked. This corroborates what I had been told elsewhere; it did seem rather expensive, rather like the Alan Mann Mk1 Escorts- but they have found more than enough customers (£300,000 for a car which you can’t race OR drive on the road?).

I think I’ve seen more Elans racing at Oulton Park this year than for quite some time; this was the Classic Sports meeting but the Gold Cup was actually swarming with them too.

Saw the exact same thing happen to a friend of mines Elan many years ago. Another car spun in front of him and speared back onto the track collecting the side of the boot and shearing it clean off. The car was successfully repaired

I think this one was up and about fairly quickly too; although I don’t think I’ve seen it.
Seen at the much-missed Cholmondeley Castle Pageant of Power in 2008; I’m not sure everything in this photo is authentic, although the Castle is the genuine article.

Pete, do you have another photo showing the reg no, by any chance?
All of the genuine Spence Elan BRMs that I know of have the ‘BRM’ initials in chrome. There was, in period, only one car that I am aware of, where the ‘BRM’ was painted on and that was LJB 624E, the development engined Elan, featured in the well-known Spence advert and Autosport road test. However, it was painted rounded, as opposed to straight, under the bonnet badge.
None of the Spence Elan BRMs that I am aware of and have period photos of sported the BRM insignia shown in your photo above the bonnet badge.

@trw99 Hi Tim, found a “full” photo of the car in the picture of @elansprint71 , also featured in the “B.R.M. thread” of 2009, then also posted by @elansprint71 . According to the then comments, the car was trailered and at that event a non-runner. Appears to be a 26R, competition car without visible license plate, maybe converted with a later B.R.M. engine hence the added B.R.M. logo´s!?! Rgds, Sam.

I suspected it might just be an hill-climb Elan built for the purpose with a BRM breathed-on engine of some description.
Rohan, perhaps Sam meant 26R type/GTS style track Elan?

Tim, I have vague memory(!) of there being a website about this car but, of course, I can’t find it.

Here is the website, which doesn’t appear to work. It’s an S3/4 body, so not a 26/R, I think it’s a “tribute” recreation.

OK then, @rgh0 , Rohan, a too early conclusion of me, myself & I, concerning “26R”.
Better is: 26R (?). Probably the 26R came into my mind given the fact that I am fond of the 26R type, my Dutch dealer is successful racing with one….
So let´s go with the phrase from Tim: “perhaps Sam meant 26R type/GTS style track Elan?”
