I’ve got a car to finish, once it’s done I’d be a buyer if it came into the market.
Yes know the feeling I’m doing an S4 at the moment
This thread has encouraged me to dig back through an old photo storage system I had.
Background to these photos is that from the mid 90s to mid 2010s my father’s main hobby outside of work was classic car racing. He started with a mini and very quickly bought an elan and then a few years later another one. I think from recollection this was so he could compete in 2 different championships. They were very highly tuned and he was very competitive, winning a lot of silverware. A lot of my weekends as a teenager were spent at various circuits around the UK and occasionally around Europe.
For a few years he owned a house with a long enough drive that it was suitable for hillclimb events so in collaboration with the Torbay motor club we hosted a couple of hillclimbs per year.
This is my elan on the day my father bought it for me as a graduation present. This car is the one I am starting to get back on the road hopefully in time for my 40th next year having been in the garage for the best part of a decade.
I used to work in chislehurst in the80s I remember the guy I believe his name was ginger Payne very good at performance work and dyne, maybe the same guy
Well done! What color/shade/brand of gold did you use for your bumpers?
I remember seeing that on a Mathewsons video and was very tempted. Well done for all of the hard work to get it to that standard.
Mike
Yes it was the Matthew son’s car.
Re the gold, I asked them to colour match the colour on the gold stripes I bought from Sue Miller.
Hi, I am about to fit a new lightweight S1 shell to a S2 TTR highback 26R chassis, do I need to cut out the section above the rear crosmember and modify for the height difference?
Cheers Colin
Hi Colin,
You might be better off asking this in a new post, rather than piggy-backing off this one.
I’m sure Vaughan will still see it and be able to reply.
Tim
will do Thank you.
Cheers Colin
He’s my car in a phot supplied by the guy who owned it around 1981, Reg is CAL 858H I’ve owned it since 83 but if by chance anyone here owned it before then it would be great to hear from you.
Here’s hoping!
Not sure if this has been posted before, but it looks like a gold/bronze coloured Elan departing Cheshunt on a car transporter. Any ideas anyone?
Mike
Mike, yep, this is a known photo and it is so nice to see a period colour image, isn’t it?
I am fairly sure that the car you describe as gold/bronze is in fact an unpainted body, going off to North America I suspect, where importers or dealers would have the car painted to customer preference.
