Don’t know if I’m being penny wise, pound foolish…
TLDR…Old shock/springs are rusty-bad-scrap
Koni are NOS but will need to source springs.
New adjustable shock/spring setup available
Question- buy new adjustables or trial and error with springs for the koni.
I’m restoring my '67 Elan. I have the old shocks/springs but they are rusty so no plans to use them except as rollers.
I have a set of NOS koni non adjustable shocks (pn 80-1691) but don’t have springs to go with them. Eibach doesn’t have a “spring set” but sells custom springs. I don’t know what size, length or spring rate i need. Maybe someone can chime in. The konis have cachet but being NOS, seals are probably nearing end of service and will likely need a rebuild.
RDent and TTR both sell new shock/spring setups, quick drop in solutions, likely for not too much more than the cost of two eibach springs.
Should I just get a new set of adjustable shocks/spring or try my luck getting springs for the Konis?
Do the Konis have adjustable platforms ? If not a little trickier but possible to determine the spring rate and free rate you need and select them from suppliers standard stock or get them custom made if needed
I have had Spax, Koni and original Armstrong shocks on the front. I currently have the TTR shock/springs, and they are far away the best I have ever used, worth every penny.
As with every adjustable platform shock, setup is important. Corner weighting will optimize the stance and the handling.
If platforms same as original and you want standard spring rates then you should be able to cleanup and reuse the standard springs unless really heavily corroded
