Hi guys - I have just got hold of GRG919N - a 1975 Roman Purple Plus 2s 130/5 in terrible condition. I’m really looking forward to a long nut and bolt restoration, but it would be nice to know if anyone has any info about the car. I have a healthy history file, but it would be nice to know more.
It was sat outside with no rear window for many years so all of the interior that could rot has done and the car was half full with leaf mould.
ALL the steel brackets are corroded to hell but the chassis shed suspension are in great condition. Engine turns by hand and has compression and she steers beautifully.
It’s obviously a complete strip and rebuild, but… the only previous owner had a new replacement galvanised chassis and running gear fitted around 1990 and it hasn’t moved much since!
I’m asking if anyone knows anything because… in the big file of paperwork that came with the car, there is a letter form Lotus confirming that it is one of the last 5 ever built - it’s a 1975 reg.. As a lot of these things have died and gone to Lotus heaven, it may well be the last man standing, which would be really cool.
