Hi my dashboard is away for what I thought was sanding down and re-varnishing but the chap that’s doing the job has just informed me that what I thought was wood veneer is actually paper would this be original if so where can I get some more.

Mine was veneer. Never heard of paper. You can easily buy more veneer.

As mentioned you want a veneer, preferably something that is pleasing to your eye. People use all sorts of things. I used 3M Di Noc vinyl on mine.

This stuff below, I then applied the correct lettering and lacquered it.
