Hi all;
Been trying to remove my crash pad to have it reupholstered. I’ve removed the four screws running through the dashboard, and the window de-misting vents, however it still seems to be stuck. am i correct in assuming that it is bonded to the bulkhead? if so how can i remove it without damaging it.
it’s removal is not mentioned on the workshop manual, and it does not show up in the parts manual either.
Hi There
There are six bolts securing the dash the 4 chrome screws across the top and also two hidden by the centre console at the bottom of the dash by the gear stick. Also there are brackets at the back of the dash just below the eyeball vents these have to be disconnected from the dash.
When I finally removed my dash I found that the crash pad was glues to the top of the dash. Carefull prying apart with a itable instrument (I used a knife and screwdriver) allows the crashpad to be separated from the dash. Do be careful, a slip with the screwdriver caused a hole in the crash pad and I ended up having the crashpad recovered in leather.
Good luck
Andy
thanks for the info, i’ll try remove it without damaging the foam too much, its going to be covered in leather anyway as it is in quite a state.
cheers
Andy,
I am reassembling a car someone else has taken apart. The inner pair of the top four chrome screws go into bobbins in the fibreglass that supports the crash pad, can you tell me what the other two screw into please?
Mike
hi mike,
I’ve just disassembled these parts, the outer screws go into regular nuts.
regards.
Hi Mike
When I reassembled mine I used large washers as the grp was cracked and fragile on the ‘ears’ that the outer screws go through.
Regards
Andy
Andy and Jan,
many thanks.
No ears on mine so I guess they’ve broken off, I thought somesthing was wrong. I’ll measure up and extend the fibreglass.

Here is a photo of the grp behind the dash. I hope it helps.
Good luck
