I’m new here, selling my 1969 MGB GT to fund buying an Elan + 2.
Am I allowed to promote it here?
If not, I won’t - and don’t want to share links etc and risk upsetting people when I’ve only joined a week or so ago!
Thanks
K

@Team_McQueen Welcome! Success in finding your Elan! In Rules and Guidelines under the head of “Marketplace” are a lot of rules (ofcourse
). One is: All ads must be related to Lotus Elans….. So: Yes your add somehow is related to Lotus Elans…. Maybe Jeff, @jcocking , could jump in ! Best regards, Sam.
Hi Sam and Karl,
I disagree with you. To me it is obviously not Elan related. The rules are their to keep the subject of this forum concentrated on the Elan.
You could be selling anything to raise money to buy an Elan.
Karl, try Classic Car Weekly. There are no fees to pay and it has a section for MG sales with thousands of viewers. Your car will appear on the website the same day and in the magazine on the next Wednesday. I successfully sold an Elan quickly and got my asking price.

Oh ! and welcome to the forum Karl. You will find all the help you are likely to need here.
Cheers
Eric
I completely agree - Classic Car Weekly is definately the best way. My Elise was on Pistonheads for a month without any interest. Put it on CCW at the same price and it was away a week later - a great selling platform IME and free to boot.
Thanks guys. It’s all up and advertised and c. Weekly is in my sale schedule.
I know that people who own one classic tend to own a few, but didnt want to promote it here unless it was an acceptable thing.
The fact I’m selling to fund an elan is a bit of an irrelevance in terms of a rationale for inclusion in the for sale area (and actually anyone could say the same about anything and it would be mayhem)
The question came more from a place that sometimes forums have an ‘other’ marketplace area. If we don’t that’s cool - just didn’t want to miss an opportunity / risk annoying anyone from the outset as my hope is to be a more active member in the future.
I like that you guys are keeping this forum very focused, without being aggressive about it too ![]()
As the members have indicated, we would have removed the advertisement as it was not Lotus Elan-related. We have been hyper-focused on Lotus Elans and Plus 2s since 1999.
Welcome to the forums, and good luck on sourcing an Elan.

All good, til that last comment
- There was never any threat of anyone having a need to remove anything - I only asked if there was a place to promote it…and if there wasn’t then clearly I wouldn’t have. Especially as this thread is ‘free parking’ for non lotus related convos so less likely to cause an issue and result in a non lotus thread being cancelled!
I wasn’t saying I would promote or anything … I was trying to be sensitive as a new member of the group…which I thought was a genuinely normal thing to do
In fact, from what I can tell no one indicated that they would have removed anything - instead everyone had just been kindly debating on both sides the merits and disbenefits of the original question and also giving extra (well received) info on where they have found was a useful place to sell - and generally being really supportive. Id really rather enjoyed that.
As the Forum Administrator, I strive to maintain a balance in all posts to ensure the forum stays true to its purpose. Classified ads for non-Lotus marque vehicles would be considered off-topic and would need to be removed, even from the Free Parking category.
Please know there are no threats intended—only a confirmation of what other members have already noted.
I truly appreciate you asking in advance. It shows great respect for our community and its members.
Thanks all👍. Car is up on Classic Car Weekly now - great advice and steer from each and everyone of you and hope I didn’t cause any insult, as non was intended.
