シャーシをボディに固定するボルトのサイズ

Hello all,

My first post, sorry if its a dafft question.

I have a project +2 that is a real basket case, the body to chassis bolts are missing and from the manual I think they are 3/8 or 7/16 UNF or UNC ?

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks in advance, lots more silly questions will be along soon!!!

What you need is a parts list which identifies all the bolts and where they are positioned along with the spec of the bolt - the part number defines the size and thread form of the bolts.
As a rule of thumb bolts that go into bobbins will be unc and nuts and bolts will be unf.

Hi Tony and welcome,

There is a full parts list on this forum and an explanation of the Lotus screw code. Start with ( The shop floor) at the left hand side of this page.

They are a helpful lot on here and you will get answers to all `silly questions`. I have been there.

My Series 3 is just now on its way to a new owner way down south in Essex. Now I am Lotusless, I feel a fraud on this forum.

many thanks Eric and Matt.

I have a lot to learn!!! Glad you are around Lotus or not!!

Tony

Eric,

You are not a fraud. You have parted with your beloved Lotus but you retain a great deal of sound knowledge and advice. Please keep posting.

Hi Tony
If you google Lotus Plus 2 body to chassis bolt kit you should find all the main suspects, Sue Miller, Classic Team Lotus and Kevdon can supply a complete bolt kit. Makes it a bit easier than trying to source them all individually.
Cheers Matt

Thank you Matt, thats great now got it sorted.

Tony,

My car is an S4 Elan so probably different numbers and sizes of bolts. I bought a kit of bolts for chassis change, which I didn’t use. My car was also a basket case. I had so much difficulty with corroded and seized nuts and bolts (1 broke a9/16"I have changed many to stainless, only using conventional steel bolts where the strength is needed.

Tony,

Sorry for the disjointed reply. I was trying to say that I broke a 9/16" AF combination spanner trying to undo one of the bolts, I think it was part of the front brakes.

Yes I also like the sound of Stainless bolts wherever possible.

At the moment I am working on mounting the body onto the rollover jig ready for restoration. And at the same time sand blasting the chassis to see how bad it is!! so far it looks solid appart fron the front towers that have been bodge welded and show cracks.learning lots and thats good, but also obviously in for a lot of work!

Thanks for advice so far.
