2K Clear Lacquer in an Aerosol

I was looking for something to finish off a local paintwork repair on my +2, and I have always wanted to use 2K paint as I believed it would cure into a harder finish, more resistant to stone chips.

As I have no air fed spraying facilities I was resigned to soldiering on with 1K acrylic paint in 400ml aerosols.

I recently discovered a 2K aerosol paint marketed by SprayMax -available on Amazon. This has the hardener contained in a second internal container in the aerosol can - after shaking the aerosol for 2 mins, you fit a red plunger to a valve on the bottom of the can and press it to release the hardener. You then shake for another 2 mins and it is ready to spray.

I used it after getting a good colour match with 1K yellow acrylic paint, and then finishing off with the 2K.There does not seems to be any reaction problems, and you get a nice 30 micron layer per coat of 2K lacquer. After 24 hours it feels like glass, and it is thick enough to flat back to a mirror finish.

As this is 2K paint you have to wear a respirator though.

Has anyone else used this?

Dave Chapman.
