now Pete --I just saw the rest of your post about ‘the rules’ and asked Beau if he would explain them to you --but he said he would rather teach a cat to bark -----BUT FEAR NOT — Neo the other wonder dog will attempt the task ---------------------now —you must keep your hockey helmet on as the FIA says all race drivers and other mental incompetents must wear a helmet -------ok here we go ----Neo says -----the FIA is in France and that’s near you --but don’t go there as they don’t like engineers -especially English ones – what Pete?? you say there’s a French poodle up the road you like??? Neo likes her too–now listen up please — The FIA they make all the rules for all motor racing for the world [except Ireland where the Irish Racing Association [IRA]and the Arab world where their idea of motor sport is to load up their used cars and trucks with explosives and blow them up ----why Pete ??well I guess they like new shiny ones --pardon Pete / oh you like to look at shiny new things too / like a shiny new radiator —that’s nice now put that little thing away or you will go blind and grow more hair on your hand —thank you ----now all the word countries follow the FIA rules and publish --whats that Pete —sorry print them —and all the race groups follow these rules —yes Pete cars run on gas --I know you can make gas —but sit by the window ----good —now-- [Pete stop licking the window please]—these rules state all about driver and track safety and car preparation0n and standard classes for cars to race in ----you can get a copy from your race group and they will all be the same ----now Neo wants a head start with that poodle up the road and don’t forget --you ride on the short bus and yes you can lick the windows on it -------off you go —ed

Back to Chris Harveys book The Elite , Elan and Europe the Elan, on page 207 where he describes an Elan ‘’ not all attempts at modifying are successful-especially these twin headlamps’'. I now own that car, was it a 26R or not? I do know the answer. The picture was infact taken on the 27th June 1965 at Snetterton not the early seventies so even the writers can get their facts wrong.

Andy
No Gary it is not the Ian Walker car, it was owned and raced by Brian Sherwood before he went onto own the Piper car company. Would post another photograph but for some reson it is not allowing me to add a photograph.

Andy,
Does it still have the four lights? In the photo it looks like work in progress.
Gary,
I’ve always thought that blue car looks great but I do hanker after a Gordon Keeble!
so —no one has any more information on the subject --[other than elansprint has a new shiny new radiator]???

Was there a subject? ![]()

This is absolute gold class entertainment…
Personally I will be concentrating on driving a racing my 26 (dare I say replica R) when finished and bugger the chassis number, files and data.
get out and drive and forget the arguements on what is real and what isn’t. I used to see far more Elans on the road a few years back, where are they all now? (being polished or converted to R’s?)
Gordon
NB - damn now have to get an aluminuim radiator to make my S2 a real R… ![]()
Oh bugger, now how do you get a mouthfull of tea out of a keyboard ![]()
Thankyou for brightening my morning guys, now back to the Tax return form.
John
Judging by the nose heavy attitude of the car in the picture, I would guess that it does not have the lightweight radiator.

OK, so, sort of getting back on track; a question.
Where’s TTR’s Shapecraft Elan these days; is it being used competitively or sitting in a collection?
