Have any of you Zetec owners had this problem?
When I first got mine (2 years ago) the car would occassionaly just cut out when on the move. It would always restart at the turn of the ignition. Sometimes, the rev counter would just stop but the engine was still running. At the time the ECU was under the drivers seat and got quite warm. I re sited it to the bulkhead and the problem ceased. No problems for nearly 2 years and then last week on the motorway it cut out again. Started immediately and has been fine since. It’s an Emerald ECU. Any ideas?
Gareth, have you spoken to Dave Walker. He’s very helpful and will probably offer some diagnostics. They could also do you an upgrade from the M3DK (nominal money). That too might help with diagnostics.
In the meantime if you want to start looking yourself, check out all aspects of the wiring, earth and feed especially.
waggled connections to ECU and then did a 120 mile round trip-seems to have cured it. Could have been my fault as I may have pulled the cables while taking carpets out for cleaning -doh!
