Wiring connections

Just about to start fitting the new wiring loom & wondered if anyone has advice on what product to use to ensure no corrosion of the joints? Is there a recommended grease to use? I’m in Canada so would really like something that is available in North America.

Keith,

Any auto parts store can sell you dielectric grease for electrical connections. Not only will the grease prevent corrosion, but it will repel liquid and prevent the connectors from becoming impossible to disconnect without damage. I believe that if Lucas had spent the extra time and money applying this to their wiring connections during the manufacturing process, their reputation would be quite different.

make sure you get a bag or two of new connectors (50 each), throw out the old ones. On the elan with the Cortina 5 way in the boot I take the single connectors and push the sleaves out and replace all of the old 5 way sleaves with the new ones. 12 years and no real issues (well some smoke, but it went away…).

Frank & Gary,
Thanks for the replies. I was thinking that dielectric grease might be the answer so thanks for confirming that.
I bought all new harnesses so all the connectors are new, should be good for another 40 years.
