I have installed a new rubber seal and replaced the windshield in my s3. With the correct tool to install the chromed plastic insert and a lube job with dish soap, the insert tends to pop out after I install about a foot into the rubber seal. I have tried to install it in various corner of the windshield to no good results. The same thing happens…trim strip pops out or turns sideways! I am wondering if the windshield is installed in the right position. The seal appears to be the same as the original but I didn’t keep the old insert to confirm the proper profile. Any suggestions appreciated.

It’s a few years since I did that job but I remember that the rubber needed of lot of persuasion with loads of lube but I put the plastic “Chrome” strip in dry with no real problem.(using the same “correct tool”)
Maybe if you dried off all of the lube you’ve been using & fit it dry, it would not pop out.
The rounded corners have very tight radii & I can imagine that it would easily pop out if covered in lube.
No I won’t bother to re-word that

I agree, I’ve fitted several of those strips and didn’t use any lubricant (did’nt even use the correct tool…just made one up) and fitting wasn’t a problem,
just do it on a nice hot sunny day or warm up the strip as it bends around the corners much easier.
Thanks, I will try to stick it in again without any lube.

Hope it doesn’t cause any discomfort
Good luck

Greg, I just put one in my S4, using washing up liquid, without a problem. I wonder if you have the correct insert? Mine is very flexible, and went in very easily, I got it from Sue Miller.

I was wondering if the wrong pieces might be the problem. But… I was able to clean the soap out of the groove and the chrome filler finally went into place. Was a bit of a pain though.

I have installed the locking strip into the rear light seal of my +2S without any lubricant. It is a little bit of work but the fit is easy enough that I suspect a lubricant might well cause the locking strip to pop out.
