i am in the process of refreshing the engine bay electrics of my '69 +2. could someone indicate the correct coil to be used from the following:
Lucas DLB101 Ignition Coil
Lucas DLB101 Ignition Coil
Lucas DLB102 Ignition Coil
Lucas DLB102 Ignition Coil
Lucas DLB105 Ignition Coil
Lucas DLB105 Ignition Coil
Lucas DLB110 Ignition Coil
Lucas DLB110 Ignition Coil
I would like to use a ballasted coil if possible.
I have also attached a photo of what seems to be an indicator flasher unit and another relay, any clue as to part numbers etc? as they are coated with paint and impossible to clean.
DLB 110 is a sports coil used with a ballast resistor. DLB 105 is a 12v sports coil NO ballast resistor. The red relay is the air horns relay if it is being used for its proper job and comes with a late 60s early 70s Maserati air horns kit. ebay for that item i’m afraid or more likely a hella or bosch off the shelf equivalent.
Elan_fan is right on the coils and horn relay. The indicator flasher is available from Autosparks, see link below. It is also the same item as used on Morris Minors… Vehicle Wiring Products also do a similar one, but without the tab for a bolt hole.
You might struggle to find a red horn relay though (I think mine is yellow).
If you need any further electrical help, drop me a line. I work in motorsport electronics and am usually quite good at finding alternative sources or parts.
That looks and sounds more like a Federal spec flasher relay as it says it can use the stop lights as indicators. Its not of the round can type shown in your photo. on the +2 I’m re-building, the flasher relay is behind the dash. Lotus wiring does tend to get hacked about over the years though…
I got a full wiring harness from Mattys a while back. The quailty is good, but some of the lengths aren’t prefect to me, mostly around the nose area. Autosparks might be a better bet but slightly more expensive.
Also, I’d be surprised if a flasher relay was used for the headlights, as it operates on the bi-metalic strip principle.
