I have an elan +2 130 that was left to me by my father, its been sitting in my mothers garage for the last 15 years due to me been a child and waiting till i was old enough to gain insurance for it. That time has come with a heap load of excitement
My question is what will i need to do to begin with to get my dream up and running? From what iām told the car was in perfect working order before it was garaged up. Iām an engineer so am happy to take on most of the smaller tasks myself, but for the larger more technical things iād rather consult a specialist. Which brings me to my second question, are there any decent people i can talk to in the yorkshire area, or will i have to travel further a field? Iāve heard of a guy in selby but not sure, if anyone knows iād be very greatful. Just want to get behind the wheel and drive what iāve been dreaming about for the last 15 years!
How about Chris Foulds in Huddersfield - never had any work done by him personally as Iām a couple of hundred miles away but meet him every year at the Lotus shows and he is a genuine nice guy. He has been involved as a Lotus Independant Specialist for years. I am sure he would help you and point you in the right direction. Doubtless he will be at Stoneleigh show 12/11.

A āspecialistā I suppose is a very good idea, if you latch onto a good one. As a āminimalistā, Iād check the oil and coolant levels and hook up a battery to see if the motor turns over on itās own with the starter. Get those + and - terminals correct. If it will turn over, Iād drop the fuel line (donāt use the fuel tank) to a fresh can of fuel and see if sheāll light off. The inside of the gas tank is a concern for sure, as are brake function and tires. Iād make sure those things are in order, and then drive it to see what youāve got. Check to see that you get some oil pressure while cranking before iginition. What carbs do you have? Good Luck, Eric
The very very very first thing that you should do, if your father didnāt do it already is bin the plastic fuel lines and the plastic āTā if your car came with these. Upgrade these items with metal brake pipe and proper rubber fuel hose. Good luck.

Eric iāve got dellortos carbs, from what iāve been reading on these forums they seem to be on the same par as the webber types, am i right on this assumption? With regards to the rest of ur advice iāve got it in with a trusted mechanic now to give it the once over, but cheers for the tips.
Cheers for the advice frank, iām sure he will of done those things, but when i get her back from the mechanic iāll look into it.
