Gentlemen, thank you all for your kind words.
Without the help of Mike Ostrov, the Elite would still be just a pile of bits.
Have a good Sunday ![]()

Looks stunning Rob. You should be well proud of what you have achieved
One of the all time great cars.
Jealous? You bet!
Mel
Thanks Mel! Hope all is well.
Elites are going nuts. One just went for huge money on BAT even with 40 year custom paint and a very tired interior.
Meanwhile, I have found a Kubota tractor alternator is my replacement to fit the 1820, so I hope to be on the road again soon. Oh, also on Saturday son and I dragged home VSCCA-logged SB1416. And I was priced out of an 03 Esprit that went huge. Hate that. John
You’ve only gone and washed all the orange off yer indicators, David …

Oh, spent the day modding a Denso copy alternator to fit in the crampt Elan space. Got a large diameter pulley attached, which required making two spacers to lift it off the housing, two because one disappeared on the floor. Investigated what the terminal labels all meant, and found there must be thirty seven different labels for the four or five possible functions. Rewired for a different connector. Fitted to the existing brackets, designed for this housing. Discovered the hot out, known variously a A, B, and B+, wanted to occupy the same space as the steering column. Removed and pondered how to move the A, B, B+ out of the way. Rotating the case was a possibility. Made progress separating the case. Then found that to do the job the entire thing would have to be reduced to bits. Cleaned up. Visited ebay for a similar cased alternator with a repositioned A, B, B+. But what else is there to do for an entire day?

So much more elegant Dear Boy - so much more elegant!!
Finished making a cover for the M/C and moving the pedal box over a tad to avoid as much wheel rubbing as I can.
Hi Graeme
That’s lovely looking work you have done there…I’m very impressed!..
May I ask where you purchased your 2 Fixings you used from?..I was chatting to a friend this morning about using them on the engine cowel on his light aeroplane and he wanted to know where you can buy them? He wanted aircraft grade but they look exactly the same as the ones you have used.
Many thanks…how long do you think before the car is finished? I would love to have a good look at what you have done!
All th best
Adam
nice touch…
ps: the Dzus fasteners can be sourced from Merlin Motorsport (no affiliations)
Re-instated the ballast coil system on Friday night but today was test day. Seams to be working well and car send to run a little better even thou it shouldn’t make a difference.
Aircraft spec fastenings are available from the usual suspects, I use Trident racing
The car has run around the block. I have a track day at Goodwood in 3 weeks
Took delivery of a carpet set … was expecting underfelt ![]()
Driving home out in the country there was a slight clatter under the car and I found the transverse silencer was scraping the ground in the centre of the car. I appear to have neglected to add a washer under the nut holding the silencer outlet to its rubber hanger and it had pulled through it and dropped the box leaving it hanging from it’s end support.
I found a ‘penny’ washer with a 5/16" hole in my tool box and had it all back running in 15 minutes.
Stripped my spare race engine down to component parts for a full rebuild to my current premium unleaded specification as can no longer use Avgas and I need to machine a little of the tops of the pistons to drop its compression ratio
My son did it, having previously never pulled an engine apart in his life, with a little guidance from me in 4 hours. Could have been quicker but spent a bit of time showing him the differences between standard and race engine components as it came apart.
The clean, detailed inspection and measuring, chasing new parts and rebuild will take a little longer but nothing really needed on initial inspection except for a new set of crank and rod bearings
cheers
Rohan
