Hello,
According to the manual, on the “Technical Data” section, there are different valve clearance settings for engines before LP.9951 and after LP.9952.
Where should I look for the number? on the head or the block?
Thank You,
Best Regards
Liad
Look on the the block, engine number should be above the inlet side engine mounting. I have only seen the engine number stamped on the heads of early engines which were at the rear and hard to read.
I think Lotus stoped stamping the head but cant tell you at what number.
Thanks for the quick response.
Do you mean the engine’s serial number? Mine is 25857, is it reasonable?
Liad
That number sounds about right for a late car although there should be some code letters as well, IIRC Lotus produced slightly under thirty thousand T.C. engines.
The valve clearance differences between early and late differences related to a change of valve material and maybe also a change in cam clearance ramp design. Exactly from what to what is not documented anywhere to my knowledge.
If you have no better data than this I would use the later clearances for all engines these days.
regards
Rohan
