The title says it all.
I made a Valve Spring compresser from a piece of Pipe as per “David Vizard”.
I have used this with a “G” clamp for many years.
You can also use it with a Sash Clamp to remove the Bendix on a Starter Motor.

Alan,
I made a similar compressor out of a C-clamp, but I had to add some depth to the reach to be able to get in line with the axis of the valve. Rather than a pipe, I made my piece out of a chunk of brass, turned on my lathe to fit nicely in the tappet bores. Later, when my son wanted to work on his Kawasaki, we made another piece to reach inside the tappet bores of the Ninja.
So, I have the tool down here in Florida, used it to put the head back together on my Coupe restoration. So I thought I’d add a photo of mine, but I seem to have mis-placed it. Gotta find it so it can go north with us in 4 days.
Found IT! But now can’t get the photo to upload. Blea
Hang on in you know you can

My garage is severely undertooled for the scope of some of the projects I undertake so when I did the head on my Elan I sprang for a valve spring compressor off of amazon. Much to my delight I found one that OTC makes and it works perfectly. The part number is OTC 4572 and you can get it for around $50 on Amazon (here in the US at least).
I decided that $50 was about equivalent to the value of my time that would be used finding a suitable C clamp, finding a piece of pipe that would work, cutting it to size, grinding the sides off, and so on…

The choice is your’s.
I happened to have some old water pipe in the garage + i have different “G” Clamps so i just got the Hacksaw out.
This tool can also be used to remove the Bendix on a Starter Motor
With the Twin Cam Head it can be difficult to find a tool to remove the Valves on the Inlet side.
The “G” Clamp theadles through between the Inlets
cheers

& the Blue Peter badge goes to…
Hi Phil,
thanks if it’s for me i like Badges and
Brownie points.
Maybe it started when i was an Apprentice in H M Dockyard Portsmouth. We used to make our own Tools. I still have them now even if a little rusty.
During the Shutdown it keeps me busy with the old Hacksaw i made .
cheers
