Thanks Gordon, plenty of info. there, cheers, John.
I repaired mine back in 1991, and is still ok.As it is usually just the bottom which rusts causing pinholes my cure was to measure the diameter accurately then find an industrial oil filter cartridge of the same diameter and carefully cut away the bottom couple of inches. Drill a hole dead centre bottom for fixing put a screw through the hole and braze it internally slip the filter over the vacuum pod having first sawn off the original fixing screw and braze all around the joint working quickly and cooling the pod frequently. The pod diaphragm should be located an inch or so above the braze line and with frequent cooling. with a wet rag it shouldn’t suffer. Mine can maintain its vacuum for months.
I repaired one of mine with fibreglass, it works well although it is obviously a visible repair.
