i need to take a pictur of the engine and chassie number. A part the plate (engine compartement), where are they stamped (on the engine and on the chassie)?
Elan Sprint chassie number 7108000193K (August 1971 federal spider)
Umberto,
From memory, I believe the engine number is on the right hand side of the block, but very hard to see, and the chassis number is on the left hand side of the chassis, not far from the exhaust manifold, (assuming that by “spider” you mean its a convertible, and not that it has a Spider (replacement) chassis…)
Cheers
Tony
I have a 1970 S4 - S/No 7012230030H with original chassis. On my car there are 3 locations to look at.
The chassis number is stamped on the top of the inlet side chassis rail. If a rhd car it is about where the steering column crosses the chassis. If lhd (your car I presume) look directly below the front carb. If it is an original chassis, from your id number (7108000193K) I would expect you’d find the number “0193K” stamped on the chassis rail. If it is a Lotus replacement chassis, it should be stamped “LR0193K”. You may need to carefully rub back the surface of the chassis to see the number as they are not too heavily imprinted.
If it is a Spyder chassis, I believe the id number is on the front cross member.
The engine number would normally on the block, on the inlet side, above the engine mount, about centre. Use a torch and look down between the carb’s. This number should also be stamped/engraved on the vehicle identification plate.
Also, the head will have a number stamped on it - on the rear (drive) end, below the camcover. If the engine is in the car you’ll need to put a mirror down between the firewall and head to check it.
unit number for the engine is cast into the head ( backside ) as the block was a ford product. Also early cars had a sequential number for the body molded into the ending firewall RHS , early units had plate (bourne ).
