Pete,

The first owner of the B&C S1 Elan was Michael Laird of Edinburgh. He was an architect, I believe, not a doctor. The new owner, Michael’s son, is Sam Laird.

You may be able to reach him through Matthewson’s, who must get a fair number of similar requests, so will, I hope, be helpful.

Good luck!

Tim

Thanks, I’ve sent them a note.

Hi Tim,

From watching the “show” I understood that Labinjoh built the car but Laird was the owner- I’ll report back if I get a response.

This very early car (78th?) had black bezels on the instruments; is this correct? Apart from that query everything looked pretty good. Considering how much had be “spent” on the resto, it looked like something of a bargain to me.

Great to see it going back to the family.

Yes, black bezels were period correct for the Elan 1600.

I got in touch with Edward, he had no recollection of building my car: must have been two doctors in Edinboro’ who built Elans back then.

That is a shame. Dr Finlay?

Tim
