All, there is an identically titled thread in the archive, but I can’t reply to it, so I’ll start again.
Basically, several of the tire suggestions in that thread (2002) are no longer available, and my Michelin XAS tires are looking pretty sad. I have an S2 and am told the 165 series tires will be too wide and result in rubbing.
Although Pirelli advertise a 145/80-13 on their website, none of my local dealers have them or can get them.
What I can get is either the Kumho KR-21 155/80R13 or the Hankook H714 155/80R13.
Has anyone had experience with either? Or other suggestions?
If I replace the old tires on my steel wheels, I’ll probably try Vredestein Sprint+ in 155/13. I doubt that you will find these locally but they are available on-line in the US at least and perhaps in Canada (Google “Vredestein Sprint+”). I haven’t owned these specific tires before but I’ve had good experience with Vredesteins, and they have a nice European look.
If/when I buy Panasport wheels, I’ll fit Michelin XAS FF 155/13 as recommended by many on this forum. In the US, they are available from Coker Tire and, I now see, from performanceplustire.com. These tires would probably break the steel wheels if used to their potential - I cracked a wheel with a lesser tire many years ago.
Good point. I forgot to mention the Vredestein Sprint+. These are available from Coker tire also.
Ever since I had a bit of an “altrication” a few years back where I ended up sitting upside down in my MGB, I’ve been a bit skiterish, so I’m not anticipating I’ll be dring the Elan anywhere close to the point where I"ll be breaking wheels!
I’m not either, on the road. I broke the wheel during an autocross on a track (then Bryar Motorsports Park, now New Hampshire Int’l Speedway) with lots of banked turns.
