I’m getting to the stage of fitting of various parts that go through the bodyshell (the plates on the sill members, the pedal box, rear bumper etc) and I’ve got to decide on a general body sealant in the next few days.
There are countless sealants on the market; Silicone, Polyurethane, rubberised etc etc. What have people found good (and bad)?
Advice very welcome as usual.
Mike
Mike,
FWIW I tend to use polyurethane (eg Tiger Seal, Sikaflex) if I need a permanent and strong join.
For general sealing purposes you can’t really do better than normal automotive rubberised seam sealant such as 3M or Tetrosyl. It remains flexible, is waterproof and if you need to take things apart it lets go fairly easily.
Again IMO silicone is OK (ish) on gaskets but otherwise I’d only use it in the kitchen or bathroom.
John,
The perfect answer, just what I wanted to know.
Thanks
Mike
