ok guys any super ideas for unsticking a frozen motor ----Coke cola just made a mess so I had a sweet seized engine —brake fluid was a joke - so I stopped -I’m NOW soaking it in Chernobyl grade penetrating oil ----any good ideas ???> ed
Did you try those other suggestions? ie; not the pistons
nothing solid came out with the oil no gold or nuggets —the valves in 3 and 4 are burned —other wise it appears in good shape for a Renault motor just ring lock from sitting —Ive heard diesel oil more than once any one have any success with it >??? -ed
It’s beginning to sound like more trouble than it’s worth. Do you ever see running R16’s on your side of the border? Or maybe one who’s motor at least turns in a salvage yard. Could be CHEAP. Or, , , put the twin cam in?
well its the challenge --and I have a push rod ford with Webber’s but its a special bell housing and notching the chassis stc etc — --and I have never seen a r 16 that I remember ----ed
Quebec
Quebec???do mean there are still some there??? they were there ???a riddle??? pontificate!!!:? ed
My father pontificates so I’ve learned not to do that.
It’s a Renault R16 engine, they were imported by the tens of thousands to North America… do some “for sale” internet homework and find a good running (maybe scrap car) engine for about $300(US) somewhere near you on this continent. (Beware, you may have to go to the Bushland)
good idea ----I could swap the motor for less than repairing the one in it as the old lump must come out any how -----you caught me to thinking inside the box on this one -----will research what s available —may be a non turbo Fuago — -ed
well i have reconsidered —I’m re building the old motor ----that way I know what I have ----ed
…that’s if you get it unstuck.
its only pistons and barrels and bearings in the block and a valve job —no big deal --can do that in the garage -----simpler than a twinc–Ill have the brakes done by thursday —the door hinges by next Monday ==then Ill start rebuilding the motor – —ED

Yes, they’re the Europas that don’t have trouble with their water pumps.
Trying to wedge a Twincam into an Sx Europa will result in a tail-heavy Europa with a weak frame. It’s been done, but it’s not a good idea. And it’s a lot more labor intensive and expensive than rebuilding the original engine for a few hundred dollars.
Junk R-16 engines aren’t all that common in my experience. If you find one, it has an 8.5:1 compression ratio and no power. Solution: Replace pistons plus camshaft. Hmm. Sounds like a little more than Ed would need to do…
