I’m in the middle of removing the dashboard-all bolts out and ready to remove the dials.The previous speedo’s I’ve removed have had a trip knob that simply unscrews allowing the dial to be brought forwards and out through the dash.
Not this one-its a late model Sprint-the trip knob has a short leg existing the housing with the trip knob arm apparently slid over the leg and located with a tiny split pin.The whole thing has a thin rubber sleeve from just above the split pin to above the knurled knob.
Anyone have experience of removing this type?-it all looks very delicate and I may only get one go at this without causing some damage.
I’ve tried pushing the pin out with no joy.
I may be able to get a hold of the pin with a very fine pair of pliers or may wait until the dash is out for better access.
Yes, the roll pin can be pushed out - I think I used a blunt nail with a tiny nut to support the plastic part underneath. Best done on the bench rather than in-situ. The pin is a tight fit in the fragile plastic sleeve, and a loose fit in the metal shaft…

I have the same speedo on my Sprint - I managed to remove the speedo without removing the trip stalk - it takes a bit of careful manoeuvering!

Hmmm, it should be a tiny R pin, not a split pin.
Much easier to get in & out.

I recall having similar problems removing mine but did manage it without removing anything after a struggle.
The voltage stabiliser fixed to the back of the housing was the major obstruction.
During the rebuild I relagated it to the back of the dashboard.
Removing the Speedo is no longer a problem.
Don’t forget to give the regulator an earth, which I did.
I ended up removing the fuel tank & fitting a new sender unit & buying a new stabilliser before discovering my mistake

It should be a roll pin. If you have a split pin or an “R” pin, I believe the original roll pin was replaced. On the other hand a small “R” pin is not a bad idea.
Mine is an R pin and as far as I am aware it always has been, but it is possible that Vegantune of Spalding changed it to an R pin when they did a major re-furb back in 1983
